Facebook, which acquired Oculus in early 2014, has been criticized for trying to monopolize the metaverse and accused of tarnishing the community and its efforts. The company’s annual revenue in 2020 was about $86 billion. Despite the success of its virtual reality launch, the company lost about $6 billion this year because the cost of manufacturing the Quest 2 headset was higher than the actual cost of selling it. Zuckerberg says this is a small price to pay to be at the forefront of advancements in body massage technology.
